She also serves as the captain of the San Diego Wave FC of National Women's Soccer League, the highest division for professional women's soccer. From 2018 to 2020, she co-captained the American women's national soccer team alongside Megan Rapinoe. [8][9] Shortly after graduating earlier from the University of California, Berkeley and playing for the California Golden Bears, Morgan was selected as the top pick in the 2011 WPS Draft by the Western New York Flash. She made her professional debut at the club and helped the team win its league championship. Morgan at the time, who was 22 years young, was the youngest national player to play at the FIFA Women's World Cup 2011 in which she finished second. In the 123rd minute of the semi-final match against Canada during the 2012 London Olympics she scored the game-winning goal. She ended 2012 with 28 goals and 21 assists and was able to join Mia Hamm as the only American woman who scored 20 goals and score 20 assists within the same calendar year and making her the sixth and the youngest U.S. player to score 20 goals in one season. The following year, she was awarded the U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year and was also a FIFA World Player of the Year finalist. Morgan was also instrumental in helping the United States winning their titles during the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cups and the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2019. She was named on both the Dream Team and won the Silver Boot in 2019.
